Dear Boerne ISD Community,

This spring, Boerne ISD asked our community to help shape the future of an important landmark located at the corner of Blanco Road and Esser Road. Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey and shared thoughtful feedback.

This campus landmark, which has welcomed generations of students, staff, alumni, and visitors to Boerne High School since 1987, recently developed a structural lean that required the district to evaluate options to ensure its long-term safety and stability.

In June, district administration presented the survey results to the Board of Trustees. The overwhelming message from our community was clear: preserve the wall if possible and maintain its connection to Boerne High School's rich history. Community members also expressed support for involving students in the restoration process whenever possible.

Following the survey, our Operations Department carefully evaluated multiple options. The review considered structural needs, long-term planning, community input, and responsible use of district resources.

After careful consideration, the district is proceeding with the stabilization and repair of the existing wall.

This approach:

  • Addresses the structural concerns and improves safety;

  • Preserves an important piece of Boerne High School history;

  • Reflects the feedback received from our community;

  • Represents the most fiscally responsible solution at an estimated cost of approximately $15,000, compared to an estimated $100,000–$125,000 for a complete replacement; and

  • Extends the life of this campus landmark while maintaining its original character.

Once repairs are complete, Boerne High School students will repaint the historic signs.  We hope to bring together alumni and current students to celebrate the restoration of this iconic campus landmark.

Boerne ISD is grateful to Waterman Construction, a longtime local partner that has completed several district projects over the years, for working alongside our team to develop a practical solution that preserves this feature while remaining mindful of taxpayer resources. 

We appreciate our community's participation throughout this process. Your feedback helped shape a solution that honors Boerne High School's history, preserves an important campus landmark, and demonstrates responsible stewardship of district resources.

Our community made it clear that this wall is more than brick and mortar—it's part of Boerne High School's story.
